Wayne Leupold, organist and founder of the publishing company, Wayne Leupold Editions, has shown a lifetime of dedication to the reproduction, preservation and dissemination of information about the pipe organ. He has published scholarly collections of historical organ music, developed a research library, published a bi-monthly digital journal and created the Leupold Archives, a repository for the preservation of organ music and memorabilia for the future.
In May of 1989, Leupold wrote a letter to Betty Lemare Biza (Lemare’s daughter) saying: “It’s my sincerest hope that the very fine organ music of your father may once again be available to organists everywhere. To help further this cause I am hopeful of republishing all of your father’s organ music.”
This proposal facilitated the publishing of eight volumes of original Lemare compositions, twelve volumes of transcriptions (including a collection of popular encore pieces), and one volume of choral works. Thanks to Leupold, musicians have been able to purchase Lemare’s sheet music and perform his compositions and transcriptions. More recently, Leupold has generously offered to accept the family’s collection of EHL manuscripts, memorabilia and personal effects into the Leupold Archives.
